When The Lord lead the nation of Israel out of the Egyptian empire about 3 and a half thousand years ago, he gave them a set of rules to live by. This was not so he could put a leash on them and “spoil their fun”, but because he loved and cared for them, he wanted the very best for them as parents do for their child. He gave them the following rules concerning himself, how we are to relate to him and approach him because it is written of him “For our God is a consuming fire” – Hebrews 12:29:

A lot of people today are in pursuit of happiness but for one reason or another, it either seems to escape them, or when they do obtain their goal, they always feel empty, and move on to “next big thing”. In this world we live in today, there are a lot of people offering and others looking for “the one thing” or that so called “x factor” which they think will take them to “the next level” or there are certain goods or services which, people think that when they obtain them, that they will have “arrived” or be on top. People a lot of the time love to give into advertising. Companies no longer sell goods or services, they sell “dreams” and the general public, for the most part has lapped it up.

At Christmas, It is so easy to get caught up with all the preparations that need to be made. You see the need to buy presents, get the turkey, the ham and all the related trimmings, which you think you need to have a “perfect” celebration. But what are you celebrating? Why all the fuss? Why are you so tired running around from shop to shop for what you’re being told are reasonable provisions? You also might be attending the end of year parties, school plays etc. So that when the day actually arrives you feel too tired and worn out to enjoy it. And of course the very next day the rat race begins once again with getting what advertisers claim are “the bargains which are not to be missed”, which, only a few days or weeks ago cost you double.

There is a large group of people in this country today who think there is no God or if he is there, that he is unconcerned or disinterested in us “mere-mortals”. This is because they look around them and see and hear of plenty of tragedies, be they across the street or on the other side of the world. They say, “How can God exist when there is so much hurt and pain in the world” or “How can a just God allow so much suffering” and they dismiss it.
