The Almighty God

Have you ever heard of the phrase “the man upstairs”? It’s a term used to describe God, The Lord Of Hosts. The very use of such a term is used to describe a very passive god, someone who is up in the clouds passively playing his harp! Such terms and phrases are thrown around with little or no consideration about reality. This is especially true in the western world.

God, who is described in the bible, is altogether different. People have always tried to put The Lord into a box, in which they are comfortable. The problem is that such a god is but an idiot of their imagination. Right from when  The Almighty led the nation of Israel out of Egypt, through the Arabian Desert to Mount Sinai, then into the Land of Canaan which was to be their homeland, laid it down clearly for them in the first two commandments:

I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments – Exodus 20:1 – 6.

The Lord is NOT your buddy, pall, mate or chum. He will not play second fiddle or equality to someone or something else which steels your affections. To think that he ever will is to be extremely disrespectful. We read:

  • He is a consuming fire Hebrews 12:29,
  • All he has to do is utter his voice in anger and the earth will melt – Psalm 46:6.
  • He is the King of Glory – Psalm 24
  • He does not change – Malachi 3:6
  • He remains the same yesterday, today and forever – Hebrews 13:8.
  • When the deeds of the wicked catch up with them and The Lord Judges them:
    • For I have trodden them in My anger,
      And trampled them in My fury;
      Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments,
      And I have stained all My robes.
  •  He counts the number of the stars;
    He calls them all by name – Psalm 147:4.
  • The heavens declare the glory of God;
    And the firmament shows His handiwork – Psalm 19:1.
  • He Is the only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see – 1 Timothy 6:15-16.
  • Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,
    Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain – Psalm 104:2.
  • Since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse – Romans 1:20.
  • There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account – Hebrews 4:13.
  • Before the mountains were brought forth,
    Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
    Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

    You turn man to destruction,
    And say, “Return, O children of men.” (Psalm 90:2-3)

  • All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men – John 1:3 – 4.
  • You are worthy, O Lord,
    To receive glory and honour and power;
    For You created all things,
    And by Your will they exist and were created – Revelation 4:11
