The Angels

He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire - Hebrews 1:7

In the Ireland today, especially since the collapse of the main stream denominational churches some people are consulting spirits, mediums and angels. They are trying to connect with “their angels” and other spirits who they think are out to do them good. While sometimes this can be the case, it rarely happens. Oftentimes it is quite the opposite, they seek to do us harm because they are enemies of God. We have been made in the image of God – Genesis 1:27.

They are powerless against God. As a consequence, we are a target. When people go after them, they drift further and further away from where they should really be. “The angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home–these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.” – Jude verse 6.

I would like to point out a few things from the scriptures:

Christ is higher than the angels

In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father ” ?
Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son” ?

And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”

In speaking of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire.”

But about the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.”

He also says,
“In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.

They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”

To which of the angels did God ever say,
“Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet” ?

Mediums bring up demons

When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled his heart. Mediums do not bring up a person’s loved ones. They bring up apparitions that deceive and lead astray. Once a person dies, there is no further communications that can be received from them or given to them. In The following passage of 1 Samuel 28, is the only time ever when God miraculously allowed the actual spirit of somebody to be brought up and allowed to speak v 12. The medium, when she saw this, she knew that she couldn’t raise people from the dead like this – it was God at work.

Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in his own town of Ramah. Saul had expelled the mediums and spiritists from the land.

The Philistines assembled and came and set up camp at Shunem, while Saul gathered all the Israelites and set up camp at Gilboa. When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled his heart. He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets.

Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her.”
“There is one in Endor,” they said.

So Saul disguised himself, putting on other clothes, and at night he and two men went to the woman. “Consult a spirit for me,” he said, “and bring up for me the one I name.”
But the woman said to him, “Surely you know what Saul has done. He has cut off the mediums and spiritists from the land. Why have you set a trap for my life to bring about my death?”
Saul swore to her by the Lord , “As surely as the Lord lives, you will not be punished for this.”
Then the woman asked, “Whom shall I bring up for you?”
“Bring up Samuel,” he said.
When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out at the top of her voice and said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!”
The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid. What do you see?”
The woman said, “I see a spirit coming up out of the ground.”
“What does he look like?” he asked. “
An old man wearing a robe is coming up,” she said. Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground.
Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?”

“I am in great distress,” Saul said. “The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has turned away from me.
He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what to do.”

Samuel said, “Why do you consult me, now that the Lord has turned away from you and become your enemy? The Lord has done what he predicted through me. The Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hands and given it to one of your neighbours – to David. Because you did not obey the Lord or carry out his fierce wrath against the Amalekites, the Lord has done this to you today. The Lord will hand over both Israel and you to the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The Lord will also hand over the army of Israel to the Philistines.”

Immediately Saul fell full length on the ground, filled with fear because of Samuel’s words. His strength was gone, for he had eaten nothing all that day and night.

When the woman came to Saul and saw that he was greatly shaken, she said, “Look, your maidservant has obeyed you. I took my life in my hands and did what you told me to do. Now please listen to your servant and let me give you some food so you may eat and have the strength to go on your way.”
He refused and said, “I will not eat.”

But his men joined the woman in urging him, and he listened to them. He got up from the ground and sat on the couch. The woman had a fattened calf at the house, which she butchered at once. She took some flour, kneaded it and baked bread without yeast. Then she set it before Saul and his men, and they ate. That same night they got up and left.

True angels don’t receive worship or heed our requests

No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier – 2 Timothy 2:4. Although this is talking about people who have apologised to God for their sins, turned from them and have trusted Christ alone to get them to heaven, it is useful to here also because True angels are under the same principle.

I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. But he said to me, “Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers the prophets and of all who keep the words of this book. Worship God!” – Revelation 22:9 – 10
